Special ?Preschoolers, Literacy & Technology? Story Time at George ...

In celebration of Children?s Book Week, January 20-26, Fort Bend County Libraries will present a special Story Time program, ?Preschoolers, Literacy & Technology,? on Saturday, January 26, beginning at 10:00 am, in the Youth Services Department at George Memorial Library, 1001 Golfview in Richmond.

Families with preschool children will enjoy a traditional Story Time program, followed by interactive activities demonstrating the use of technology devices, such as computers and Nooks, to enhance reading and learning opportunities. The library?s Early Learning Station computers are equipped with educational software, including games that enable children to have fun while learning basic literacy skills. Library staff will also introduce TumbleBooks, which are online animated picture books that can be downloaded to electronic reading devices such as Nooks, iPads or computers.

?Research shows that children who are read to from an early age have a larger vocabulary and better language skills when they start school. They also have a greater interest in books,? says Susan King, Coordinator of Youth Services at Fort Bend County Libraries. ?Children who want to have books read to them are more likely to want to learn to read. You can give your child a life-long advantage if you start now to develop a love for books and reading. Children who are good readers are usually the most successful learners. Reading is a good habit to start!?

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the library?s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
